We collected a large amount of tips from our Bombrat members. Each member rated them, how important they are for their success in the game. Below you find the best tipps for Battlefield 3. And we found out, that EVERY member from our community found at least one point, he didn’t know until now. Check it out and see yourself!
(click here for the german version)

If you are revived, this death is removed from your statistics. Additionally this gives back one ticket in Conquest and Rush mode. In TDM battles, your kill is removed from the enemies counter. (Smoerble)

You can detonate C4, even after you’re dead. So it’s better to stick one more packet on the tank and get killed (and set it off, when you’re back in the game) than to detonate it too early. (Smoerble)

If possible, place mines or C4 in areas that don’t have a uniform texture (like streets). Better place mines on the field or on dirt roads. If it has to be placed on a street, then use the edges of shadows (especially if they’re moving and don’t have straight sides). A good idea is to detonate one mine on a street and then place more mines in the dark area, that the explosion caused. (Smoerble)

Rocket launchers: Two rockets launched directly in the back of a tank will destroy it. The more straight you shoot, higher damage you do. So it’s better to wait a bit for a better attack position. (Smoerble)

Helicopters: When fighting against other helicopters, you should always try to fly higher than your opponent. You have a better overview from above. If you opponent needs to raise his nose to aim at you, there is a chance he crashes into the ground while fighting. Besides, gunners can only shoot downward. (Kaizilla)

When acting as Attack Support, always drop your munitions packets and medipacks at your team mates postions. It’s good for the team and even if you die, you still get more points until the packets are used up. (PzGrennie)

Use Squad Perks. Starting from level 23, you get improvements that affect your whole squad, not only you alone. But keep in mind, that squad perks don’t stack up, so if two squad members use “Squad Sprint”, you don’t have a higher speed than if only one team member uses it. (Smoerble)

Helicopters: If you’re a pilot and you unlocked “Below Radar”, your opponent can no longer target you, as long as you’re flying at below 20 meters of altitude. The “Below Radar” feature is always active: you don’t need to configure it or turn it on. (Smoerble & Kaizilla)

Sound: It is crucial to switch your sound to “War Tapes” (Settings->Audio->Speaker System). It makes it much easier to localize opponents. Their steps, shouts, even incidental noises are much better to locate and can be heard at a longer distance. (Smoerble)

Tactics: Flank your enemies! Use your transport options to go around defense positions. Ever since we’ve had Joint Operations, going staight into danger like lemmings is not cool anymore! (Jake)

In general: Take advantage of your maps. There are locations where you’re more likely to run into opponents (“hiding places” or places with good visibility). (Jake)

Helicopters: Heat-seeking rockets can be thrown off target with ECM and flares. If you’ve locked onto an opponent, it’s worth flying in closer. At such close range, the rockets will still make a hit despite flares. (Kaizilla)

Cover: Wooden walls and above all tarp-covered wire fences are NOT cover. You can shoot through them. If you think there’s an opponent behind one, simply spray half a magazine in a radius of some meters at the wall. Then, wherever the hit indicator lights up, empty the rest of the magazine. (Smoerble)

Tactics: Your squad should never run in a straight line behind each other. The opponents’ bullets can go through several bodies. Which also means that a single burst can take out three to four players, if they come in a line like ducks. (Jake)

Tactics: Don’t stay in doorways to shoot. Too often, you’re blocking retreat paths, both from outside to inside as well as the other way around. We see too many players die unnecessarily this way during each round of the game. (Smoerble)

Assault: Don’t always rush to be the first around a corner – especially if you’re a medic, it’s better to be the “third” (because you can bring people back to life). (Beaker)

Sound: Use headphones instead of speakers. The ability to localize opponents (who is behind you?) works up better with headphones as opposed to even high-quality speakers. (Smoerble)

Tactics: Stay away from flat open spaces. Cross a street only at a 90 degree angle. Better to make a small detour with cover than to storm a mountain without cover. (Jake)

Hardware: A lot of claims have been made on this subject. Until recently I didn’t believe how strongly the right mouse alone influenced gameplay. Hadruf improved his statistics by 30% from one day to the next by buying a 30-40 Euro mouse. So did Jake. (Smoerble)

Tactics: Never reload during a fire fight. Meaning when weapon 1 is empty, switch to weapon 2, it’s much faster than reloading. (Hadruf)

And here are still more hints … yeah, it’s a hell of a lot, but it worth giving them all a look at least once.

Tactics: Don’t always stare in one direction. Quick glances left, right, ahead and behind, improve your survivability somewhat. However, this means you’ll have to practice this intensively, to keep from losing your orientation in the process and to stay aware of what you’re doing. (Vorwaerts82)

Knives: You can make holes in the wire fences and board walls with the knife (Button (F)). If you change your weapon to knife, instead of pressing (F), you can signficantly increase how fast you can make another stab. (Smoerble)

li>

Tactics: Decide on your game tactics. Would you rather stay under cover, with silencers attached to your gun, or are you more of a lemming? Choose your gear and squad gadgets accordingly. Get agreement from your squad. It pays off to have everyone pulling together (everyone using sound suppression, for example). (Jake)

If you shoot without silencer attachments, you show up on the minimap, visible to everyone. If you do use silencers, you’ll cause less damage, but they also won’t be able to see you on the minimap. (Smoerble)

Points: Better to let people get away and stay alive than to get shot yourself. It’s important for your team (you save tickets), but above all, you’ll get points if someone else then kills that opponent. If you shoot someone and get him down by 10%, and someone else kills him, you get 90 points (instead of the 100 for the kill). (Smoerble)

Tactics: In a one-on-one, always move left or right while firing. Never stand still or lie down. The exception: should it happen that the opponent is standing just one meter in front of you, it’s worth it to throw yourself down: the opponent will shoot over you, while you can riddle his shins with bullets.

Tactics: Avoid getting in the way of your squad. Bend down when it gets tighter so people can jump over you. Don’t run in the line of fire. Communicate your direction, since the more that people shoot at an opponent, the sooner he’ll be dead (best case). (Jake)

Helicopters: It’s worth practicing various standard flight maneuvers over empty areas on the map. That’ll give you an advantage later in the game. (Kaizilla)

Tactics: After exchanging fire, stay in cover and reload right away. Do this even if only 5 shots were fired – that way you train yourself to always reload your magazine and without thinking about it, it’ll soon become automatic. Besides which, you’ll always be reloading with full magazines. (except for MG with Mag-extension, for one example) (Beaker)

The laser pointer minimizes the scatter radius when you’re shooting from the hip. In exchange, though, it very often reveals your position to the enemy. (Smoerble)

Cover: Don’t hide right next to walls. Backpacks or parts of your body can project through the walls. Sometimes you can even see your opponent’s name if he’s hiding right behind a wall. Your legs will show through the walls especially if you’re lying down , so you can get killed from the other side of an obstacle! (Smoerble + Beaker)

Tactics: When you know you’re not likely to hit anything, leave the killing to the pros and concern yourself with provisioning (health + munitions). (Jake)

The 6x and 12x Scopes generate light reflections. They will often reveal the positions of players, even if they don’t point directly at the enemy. So unless you’re playing as a sniper, it’s better not to use these scopes. (Smoerble)

Rocket launchers: After the first shot, NEVER shoot again from the same position. First of all, your opponent will see the smoke tail of the RPG. Additionally from another position, you’ll also have the chance to aim in peace. (Vorwaerts82)

Communication: Only people who give information out can be helped. (Jake)

li>

In general: You should mount either the RDS or the Holo on your primary weapon as the standard optics. Other optics increase the time required for the weapon to acquire a target. (Kaizilla).

If you shoot at jets or helicopters with stingers, they’ll get an extra warning tone. However, if you mark them with the SOFLAM or laser pointer of a land/air vehicle and then shoot at them using the guidance advise of the land/air vehicle, they’ll only notice it after the first attack, without any previous warning. (Smoerble)

Never place mines and C4 in a row, even though several videos recommend it! It’s easier to recognize things when they’re laid out in row. So always stagger them or place three right next to each other. (Smoerble)

Tactics: If you’re shot inside a house (by an opponent who is also in the house; for example, on the exit stairs), don’t be the first one to look around the corner. Simply try to succeed in being after him. 70% of the time, it turns out that most of the opponents are waiting around the corner. (Jake)

In general: Since weapons have different amounts of scatter, try out each new weapon for an entire round, , to check which functions better with your playing style and skill level. (Smoerble)

Points: If you stay with your squad, you get extra points: if you kill someone who attacks a squad member, or if you kill someone who just killed a squad member, you get lots of extra points.(Smoerble)

Points: You don’t have to make a lot of kills to make a lot of points. Even without kills, you can make enough points to land in the middle of the statistics for the round. Always staying in the area of the objective gives you extra points, as well as providing cover fire for your team (even if you don’t hit anyone, you get 50 points each time.(Smoerble)

Always try to target the head. Even in close combat. There’s more damage than with body hits. (Kaizilla)

Hit indicators in HUD (the crosshairs indicate when you hit someone): you can fire 40mm grenades or rockets near obstacles. If the HUD indicator flashes, you know someone is hiding there.

If it seems to you that you’re making too few kills, it’s worth taking a look at your graphics settings. Even though the game runs seamlessly at a higher and prettier resolution/quality, a “worse” graphics setting can give you that millisecond that makes the difference between killing and being killed. (Kaizilla)

Cover: Pay attention to what you’re hiding behind. Lots of gamers act like they’re in a B movie: they’re hiding behind a vehicle but their feet are showing. So only crouch behind a tire, don’t lie down, don’t stand by or hang around the middle of the vehicle. (Smoerble)

If you’re a gamer who shoots from hip hip (without using the right mouse to aim), then always attach a laser to your rifle. It minimizes the crosshairs and thus greatly improves your accuracy when shooting from the hip. (Vorwaerts82)

The different scopes have different impact, how fast you switch from release to aim position with a rifle. Even if it’s only a matter of a few tenths of a second, it can make a difference, depending on how you play. (Smoerble)

Tactics: Snipers can only see things in front of them. So flank them and take them from behind. (Jake)

In general: If a medic get killed in front of you, you can take over his class, bring him back to life, and then take back your own class (hold the “R” key on the weapon he dropped). It’s good for the team and for your own points. After bringing him back to life, you can take up your weapons and play on as your original class. (KingUdo)

Assault: Never bring your fallen teammates back to life right away. Always wait a bit, to see if there’s any more shooting. When the opponent’s position is known, absolutely kill the opponents FIRST and then bring people back to life. (Beaker)

Cover: You can make yourself practically invisible lying down under some arrangements of boxes and crates – as long as you don’t use the light or the laser pointer. (KingUdo85)

C4 stays attached wonderfully to some vehicles. If you get out while the vehicle is still going, the vehicle will continue to roll on. If you then detonate the C4, you’ll find you’ve definitely gotten it within range. (Jake)

On some maps, a 6x zoom makes sense, on others, it’s too much. Change the scope according to whether you’re expecting CQB (Close Quarter Battles) or long range combat. (Smoerble)

This tutorial is mainly for the Javeline Anti Tank missle in Battlefield 3.

Some facts: The FGM-148 Javelin exists in real live. It’s a fire and forget rocket system: the crew (two men) aim at a target, lock it, fire and the missile finds the target alone, even if moving.

One rocket (= one shot) costs 40.000 US$

The reusable launch unit costs 125.000 US$

The missile can reach a top height of 150 meters

The launch unit has different modes of sight, while in Battlefield 3 you can use only one (infrared) sight mode

In Battlefield 3 you can use a SOFLAM to target an enemy tank and lock on through obstacles. In RL this is impossible, you have to have a line of sight on your target plus you cannot use any secondary system to lock on targets

In BF3 the Javeline Anti Tank missile has two firing modes: direct and “top attack” fire. You cannot switch the modes directly while using the Javelin.

Instead:

+ if someone uses a SOFLAM or a special unlock in a vehicle to target enemy vehicles, the Javelin uses automatically the “top attack” mode

+ if no-one targets enemy vehicles, the Javelin fires always in direct mode

Main difference:

1) from top:

– hit disables the vehicle with one shot while

– soldier can lock on through obstacles and hills

2) direct mode

– hit does only 33% damage

– line of sight is needed to lock on and fire

In Battlefield 3 the Javelin fire mode “top attack” looks very similar to the real life Javelin, here you can watch both variants:

The Javelin in RL

The Javelin in BF3

If no other player targets enemy vehicles, the Javelin works simple: aim at the tasrget, keep it in sight, until it’s locked (you hear the beeping sound), fire.

If another player targets enemy vehicles, you see a diamond shape on your screen. This allows you to aim at the target, even if you can’t see the vehicle.

Aim, wait for the locking sound, fire. Important: stay away from walls and rocks, the Javelin rocket needs some space before it flies into the sky. Typically the Javelin disables a tank instantly.

Two Javelins are needed to destroy a tank.

Keep in mind: if a tank is fast moving, the Javlin will miss it in the “top attack” mode.

Typically, if you have more than 6/7 players talking in the same channel, half of the players don’t say a word, while the other half just spreads information, that is useless and/or even annoying for the rest.

Solution:

The players use seperate channels in Teamspeak 3. They join seperate sub channels in the same groups as they play together on the servers. This results into a new…

… problem:

Squads can talk only to squad members, but not to members in other channels.

Solution with Channel Commanders and “whisper”-function:

In each channel one or more players need to become so called “Channel Commanders”. For this, they use a special key to communicateto other channel commanders in any other channel. If they don’t use the special “whisper”-key, they communicate only inside their channel. The regular users in all channels communication don’t hear anything from the channel commander’s communications.

You need to do two things:

1) Define a key to use the whisper function

2) Become a channel commander

Part 1: configure the whisper key:

Click on “Settings”, then “Options”

In the left column look for the “Whisper” icon, click on it

Click on “Whisper Lists”

In the new window you click on “new” to configure a whisper key

Hit any key or key-combination you want to use for the whisper function

Set the dropdown “Whisper to” to “Groups”

Two new dropdowns appear

Set dropdown “Group Whisper Type” to “Channel Command”

Set dropdown “Group Whisper Target” to “All Channels”

Part 2: Make yourself a channel commander:

Right click on your own name in “Teamspeak 3″

Click on “Channel Command”

The loudspeaker icon in front of your name now changes to a different icon. If you press the whisper key, the icon turns red.

Hello and welcome to a new Battlefield 3 tutorial.

Today we talk about the EOD bot, because you can use it to detonate C4 at the enemies position.

The EOD bot is a gagdet that needs to be unlocked by the engineer class. Basically the EOD bot is meant to arm and disarm the objectives in the game mode “Rush”. As the bot is a little smaller than a normal player, you have a good chance to pass enemies without beeing noticed.

Additionally, you can kill enemies with the bot directly. You can burn them, but it’s a little difficult with moving targets. This part demonstrates, how it looks and feels, if you are killed by the EOD bot.

Ok, now about the cool feature:

You can use the EOD bot to transport presents… either an ammunition box for your friends, or a C4 package for your foes. Throw the ammunition box at the bot and it’s placed automatically in the correct position, the C4 needs to be placed way more carefully.

When that’s done, you just need to find a route to the enemies positions. Once you reach your destination, tell your comrade to detonate the C4… and that’s it. If friendly fire is turned off, your bot even survives and can be re-used .

The person who steers the EOD bot, will not get any points while the supporter with the C4 gets regular points for killing enemies.

You play Battlefield 3 but you don’t know how to upload your own avatar to Battlelog?

The point is: you cannot upload your own avatar directly to Battlelog.

Instead, you need to do the following steps:

Create a free account at http://www.gravatar.com. You can use any eMail you use, but it’s easiest, if you use the same eMail adress that you used to register at Origin/Battlelog.

Upload your image to Gravatar.com.

Select the area you want to use as your avatar.

Rate it.”G” means it’s a “safe” image, Battlelog displays only avatars with the rating “G”.

Choose the eMail adress associated to this avatar.

Log into Battlelog, go to your profile, click “Edit Profile”

Enter the eMail Adress you just chose in Gravatar

Wait 5 minutes, then everyone in the world sees your new personal avatar in Battlelog!

Important:

Be sure to follow the guidelines, if you upload a sex image and rate it as “G”, your account in Gravatar will be locked, and you might get a temporary ban in Battlelog too.

The trick is:

you need to upload your avatar to an external site called “Gravatar” (http://www.gravatar.com)
